New Gen is a platform founded by Istanbul Moda Academy designed to showcase and professionally support up-and-coming young designers. The goal is to prepare fresh talent who completed their fashion design education and introduce them into the fashion industry. New Gen guides participating designers in creativity, knowledge, management skills and merges these with production procedures to construct a professional collection, create their own brands and sustainability. This journey then finalises with the designers getting the opportunity to present their collections at Fashion Week Istanbul.
Lidya Zenginel was born in 1997 in Istanbul. She graduated from ECA Elginkan Anatolian High School. Finished her BA in Textile and Fashion Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She spent her spring semester by studying at the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam in 2018. She was selected for a team of 11 people in the garment design project organized by Sun Tekstil “Sun Design Project” and she did her clothing internship by being involved in this project. She was a finalist in the 14th ITHIB Fabric Design Competition. She prepared a project collection with designer Özlem Süer in February 2020. Lidya Zenginel won the third prize in the 28th Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition, which placed in 2020. Currently she is working as a fashion designer in Sudietuz. For her masters she will be studying at Central Saint Martins.
Born on 04.07.1997 in İstanbul. In 2015, she was accepted to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University department of Textile and Fashion Design. She was honored to be 1st in section at her graduation from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2020. In 2018, she studied at Technical University of Liberec in Czech Republic as an Erasmus student. During her education, she got involved to various workshops and industry collaboration projects by preparing collections for companies such as Sun Textile, Ebebek, Att Clothing. She won 1st place award in the 4th Junioshow Baby and Kids Wear Design Young Designers Competition, 10 Years old Kidswear Design Category. In 2020, she won 1st place award in the 28th Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition. She has been continuing her career as a designer at Sudietuz brand since February 2021.
Şeyma Hamamcı was born in Istanbul,1994.She completed her primary school and high school degrees in İstanbul.After starting the textile and fashion design department at Istanbul Technical University.She continued her education in the department of textile and fashion design at Halic University faculty of fine arts and graduated with the first rank in the faculty.She also completed her double major in Graphic design.She completed her internship in İpekyol and had the opportunity to work in all departments of the collection,from drawing,design and production stages,she still continues to work as a freelance. She took part in many competitions as semi-finalists and took place as the top 10 finalists in the 28th Koza Young Fashion Designers competition.After completing the Fashion Design master class program at the Istanbul Fashion Academy, she had the opportunity to take part in the Istanbul Fashion Week as part of New Gen.
After graduating from Marmara University's textile and fashion design department in 2018, she started her master's degree in printing at Marmara University. While the thesis period was still ongoing, she worked as a design assistant for MiiN brand for 3 years, following Nihan Peker's design assistantship in 2019. In this process, she became one of the 10 finalists in the Koza Young Fashion Designers competition, which she participated in 2020, and presented her Men's clothing collection within the scope of Fashion Week Istanbul New Gen' 21, after qualifying for her Master's Education at the Istanbul Fashion Academy.
Öykü Ece Uza
Öykü Ece Uza was born in 1997 in Eskişehir. In 2016, she got accepted to the Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She studied at Willem de Kooning Academy with an exchange program in 2018. She had the chance to take various masterclasses here. After completing her weaving internship at Alfa Textile, she did voluntary clothing internships in various companies. She was among the top 10 finalists in the 28th Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition in 2020. In 2021, she was among the top 11 in the 11th Home Textile Competition and participated in the masterclasses given here. She has been working as a freelance print designer in Mudo Women's Clothing department for 4 seasons and has been working as a freelance print designer in Mudo Men's Clothing department for 2 seasons. She graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2021. She also completed her masterclass program at the Istanbul Fashion Academy and had the chance to appear on a fashion show at Istanbul Fashion Week as part of New Gen.
Ercan Tenekecioglu has graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Textile Department in 2015. In his sophomore year, he joined Studio Kaprol team formed under the mentorship of Arzu Kaprol. The collective team’s attitude was to include different disciplines. Studio Kaprol displayed their collections in Istanbul Fashion Week in 2012 and Berlin Fashion Week in 2014. Between 2012 and 2015, he undertook the Pattern Designer position for Arzu Kaprol. He completed his senior year at Prague Palacký University as part of the Erasmus program. He worked as a senior designer for NU in 2015-2019. Since September 2019, he works as a Designer for Hakaan Yıldırım. While working in this position, he took part in the 28th Koza young fashion designers competition as a finalist.
While studying in Textile and Fashion design at Marmara University Faculty Of Fine Arts, Mirey Demirci stayed in Spain for a year and continued her studies to develop herself in the field of design and art at Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Valencia. In 2020, after graduating, she became one of the 10 finalists in the 28th Koza Young Fashion Designers competition. In 2021 she took a Master Class at Istanbul Fashion Academy and she is exhibiting her collection named “Shake That Magic Wand” among the designers of the brand “New Gen” for the 2022 Fashion Week Istanbul. Currently, she continues her career as a designer at the brand “Lug Von Siga”. The thought that Mirey attaches importance to in the process of creating and developing her personal collections is to reflect her own identity to the collection by shaping all the concepts and the details that she sees as a source of inspiration.
Berfin Özgür was born on February 15, 1997 in Istanbul. She graduated from Aşık Veysel Fine Arts High School in 2015. She competed as a finalist in the 28th Koza Young Designers Competition in 2020. She graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Textile and Fashion Design Department in 2021.
